MBA - Know all about geographically
portable management degree
"Generally, graduates applying to MBA programmes are those who want to advance their
careers, make a career change or move into entrepreneurship."
What are typical reasons for doing an MBA?
For some, an MBA is a great way to get
on the track to a position in their current line of work with a little more responsibility
and maybe a few more perks as well. MBA programs help students to build management
and leadership skills that will help them work in higher level positions, even as
executives and CEOs. While an MBA isn't a guarantee of getting a position in management,
it certainly doesn't hurt, as many businesses and corporations see it as a definite
asset when working to fill these positions.

What are the advantages of doing an MBA?
In a nutshell, your job prospects are likely to be improved, you can expect an increased
salary upon your return to work (depending on the sector, it could be 100 per cent
improved – or more!) and you'll create a useful network of contacts (fellow students,
lecturers and even speakers invited to campus) who could help you throughout your
career. Most business schools also have very strong alumni networks.
Employers usually
look favorably on the MBA qualification because they can be assured that those who
have studied for one will have the right knowledge and skills to be able to work
in their organization. This is because the MBA focuses entirely on business-related
issues such as finance, marketing, operations, technology, accounting, business
strategy, organizational behavior, economics and entrepreneurship
Where to do MBA?
Perhaps one of the most important things to consider when choosing an MBA program
is what you expect to get out of it after you've completed the program. Figure out
if getting an MBA will give you the experience and skills you'll need to reach your
goals or if you would be better served with more work experience or a few shorter
courses in concentrated areas.
You'll also need to decide if your school of choice
offers a program that is specialized enough to help you get headed in the right
direction. Each school is different and another program may suit your needs better,
so do your research carefully. Finally, it's important to consider the amount of
real world experience you'll get through any program. Some offer internships and
networking opportunities while others are geared towards those who have already
been working in the business sphere.
What are the different specializations in MBA?
All MBAs hold certain core attributes that are valued by employers seeking to hire
the managers of the future, and general MBAs teach their students to think strategically
and analytically. However, if you add to this a specialization that matches with
future career goals then the combination can fast track a candidate to senior management.

What are the requirements for applying to an MBA programme?
Generally, a first degree will be required, and at least three years' work experience.
Many business schools will also require you to sit the Graduate Management Admissions
Test (GMAT) when you apply.
When is the right time to do an MBA?
Most entrants to MBA courses are already managers of some description. MBAs are
designed to allow people to progress further in their chosen careers, or make a
career switch – not to start at the bottom. It's unusual to start an MBA course
immediately after graduating, unless there are very special circumstances (maybe
because you've been running or helping to run the family business since you were
ten), and most accredited courses will require you to have at least three years'
work experience before applying.
Part of the appeal of doing an MBA course is coming
into contact with fellow students who can share their business experiences, which
would be impossible if everyone was fresh out of university – you're expected to
learn from them and gain from their experience as well as that of the lecturers.
